Hi! My name is Owen Baker. I have a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, with a minor in math, earning magna cum laude honors at Seattle University and receiving the “Outstanding Graduating Senior” award from the chemistry department.

I tutor students of all ages, from grade school through college. I’ve tutored students in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and at the Native American Student Center at the University of Idaho, while I was working there as a research specialist in an evolutionary microbiology lab. It’s gratifying to see students developing competence, confidence and ability to tackle problems on their own. It’s also gratifying to see students’ grades improve – a visible metric of success.

I know that academics, especially math and science can be incredibly intimidating, discouraging and unpleasant. It’s not fun to do things that make you feel stupid, or that seem abstract and pointless. I aim to help students find enjoyment and resilience in struggling through problems. I want to help students find a more organized and fruitful way of approaching problems, seeing the bigger picture, and persevering.
